Just recently, Kite Packaging unveiled their newly expanded Letchworth branch, marking a significant milestone in their South East operations. This project was nothing short of a "Grand Designs" style makeover, transforming the entire site into a state-of-the-art facility designed to accommodate their growing business needs and future expansion plans.

July 2016 - Kite Packaging Acquires Letchworth Site

After a thorough 18-month search, Kite Packaging secured a prime property in Letchworth, consisting of a 23,949 sq. ft. factory space along with an adjacent office block. The previous factory setup, which had served its purpose well, was now being replaced with a more modern and efficient structure. The acquisition came with the promise of ample room for current operations and potential expansion down the line.

August 2016 - Refurbishment Work Commences

To make the newly acquired site fully operational, a comprehensive refurbishment plan was put into action. This project offered an excellent learning opportunity for Kite’s graduates, who were tasked with overseeing various aspects of the project under the guidance of the management team. They coordinated with contractors to ensure that the work stayed on schedule and within budget.

Warehouse Transformation

Maintaining high customer service standards was at the forefront of Kite's mind during this renovation. The design of the warehouse was a crucial component of this effort. Previously, the Harlow branch had begun relying on third-party storage solutions, which posed challenges in managing inventory held by external parties. With the Letchworth site providing over 6,000 sq. ft. of additional space, the team could finally house all their stock on-site. The challenge then became designing an efficient layout to organize and pick stock quickly, ensuring timely delivery to customers.

Office Transformation

The office makeover was no small feat. It wasn't just about fresh paint and new furniture; it involved significant structural changes too. For instance, the entrance was moved outside the main open-plan area, creating a more inviting first impression. One of the most transformative additions was the creation of a mezzanine floor by repurposing a former archive storage space. This move not only added valuable square footage but also allowed Kite to grow their workforce without worrying about space constraints.

The office now boasts high-quality furniture that fosters a productive yet comfortable work environment. Meeting rooms are equipped with glass doors to maintain the open-plan aesthetic. The office walls feature pops of Kite’s signature green color, adding both character and cohesion to the space.

October 2016 - Stock Transition from Harlow to Letchworth

The biggest hurdle during this project was moving the existing stock from the Harlow branch to the new Letchworth location while keeping customer service and order fulfillment uninterrupted. This required meticulous planning to ensure every item had a designated spot in the new warehouse. A carefully orchestrated plan was executed over a long weekend in October, involving a dedicated team of Kite employees.

By Tuesday, October 24th, 2016, the Letchworth branch was fully operational.

November 2016 - Official Opening of the Letchworth Branch

The grand opening ceremony for the Letchworth branch was officiated by Kite Group Chairman Bruce McInnes and the Managing Partners. According to Managing Partner Paul Mustard, the Letchworth branch is designed to meet current operational demands while paving the way for future growth. This new site fulfills Kite's strategic goal of expanding its South East presence and contributing to the overall growth trajectory of the company. As the latest addition to the Kite family, the Letchworth branch is poised for great success.
