Classic Grandeur, Modern Comfort: Waldorf Astoria Residences New York

Inspired by the timeless elegance of the original Waldorf Astoria, renowned international designer Jean-Louis Deniot has crafted residences that beautifully blend modern comfort with the opulent charm of Art Deco. These homes harmoniously unite the old and the new, the European and the American, creating spaces that are both grand and intimate. Welcome to the Waldorf Astoria Residences New York, where history meets innovation.

Since its opening, the Waldorf Astoria has been nothing short of a city palace. It has hosted cultural icons, political leaders, musicians, and royalty within its grand halls and luxurious suites. The Waldorf Astoria set the benchmark for American hospitality, offering unparalleled service that remains legendary to this day.

The original Waldorf Hotel was constructed at 33rd Street and Fifth Avenue in 1893 by William Waldorf Astor. Just four years later, his cousin John Jacob Astor IV, seeking to outdo his relative, built an even taller hotel next door. Eventually, they reached an agreement, connecting the two buildings via a stunning 300-foot marble corridor known as Peacock Alley. Thus, the Waldorf-Astoria was born.

The story of the Waldorf Astoria mirrors the spirit of New York City—marked by ambition, innovation, and achievement. From the residential interior design of Jean-Louis Deniot to the architectural expertise of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, and the hotel interior design by Pierre-Yves Rochon, each member of the restoration team brings a global reputation to the project.

Each residence reflects the grandeur of the original architecture, with meticulously balanced aesthetics and functionality. Large windows replicate the building's original design, filling the rooms with breathtaking views of New York City's skyline.

The kitchens, designed by Deniot and crafted by the prestigious Italian design house Molteni&C, showcase custom wood and lacquer cabinetry that cleverly conceal state-of-the-art Gaggenau appliances. The primary bathrooms offer luxurious touches such as heated floors, rain showers, and custom Italian vanities, while handcrafted finishes and natural materials pay homage to the building’s storied past.

The Art Deco architecture, with its iconic details and setback terraces, perfectly complements contemporary design elements. This fusion of old and new, cosmopolitan and American, grand and intimate, results in a unique living experience that honors the past while embracing the future.
