First impressions can be lasting, and that's why you should never overlook the importance of an entryway. To help you understand its significance, we're sharing insights from some of our favorite interior designers. Take a look and learn how to craft a welcoming and unforgettable hallway!
In a chic Hamptons home designed by Deborah Berke and decorated by Thomas O’Brien, Thomas O’Brien’s pendant lights from Aero complement an Alexandre Noll sculpture (at the far end) and a Donald Baechler painting (to the right). An Alexander Calder lithograph is mounted at the base of the staircase.
Speaking of first impressions. Imagine walking into a house that looks like this one. This striking and luxurious entryway would charm anyone who steps inside. Designed by Nina Magon Studio.
Renowned Australian designer Greg Natale is celebrated for his mastery of patterns and colors, and his bold use of both in creating tailored, curated, and sophisticated spaces. The blue tones of the walls flow throughout the entire house, creating a cohesive design. This consistency is further emphasized through the matching entryway furniture.
With a distinctive signature style and over four decades of experience, Kelly Hoppen is undoubtedly an icon and one of the most celebrated interior designers globally. For this entryway, a touch of sophistication was introduced through framed paintings, a concrete console table, and luxury lamps.
In the baronial entry hall of Tommy Hilfiger’s Connecticut estate, an antique iron chandelier hangs above an 1840s Gothic Revival library table and Martyn Lawrence Bullard-designed stools, which are adorned with a Robert Kime print and a Samuel & Sons fringe trim.
In the entrance hall of a Minneapolis mansion, designer Michael S. Smith incorporated a painting by Jacob Kassay, Qing-dynasty vessels, and a tabletop sculpture by Anish Kapoor; the custom-painted fretwork pattern over the dining room doorway is by Gracie.
Joseph Dirand has been honing his eye since childhood. He understands the spatial and visual aspects of a place. He is attuned to how light interacts with surfaces, he analyzes structures, notices even the smallest details, examines materials, and appreciates the rightness of colors.
At the Hudson Valley home of designer Sara Story, a painting by Yayoi Kusama commands attention in the entrance hall/gallery, which features a graphic pattern made of Carrara, Bleu de Savoie, and Nero Marquina marble. A vintage settee upholstered in a woven fabric from ALT for Living adds warmth.
Black-and-white floor tiles by Clé provide a striking welcome at the Manhattan duplex apartment of Naomi Watts; the interiors were designed by the firm Ashe + Leandro. The entrance hall’s pendant light is by Ralph Lauren Home, the 19th-century shell-back chairs are from KRB, and the painting in the stairway is by Harland Miller.
Internationally recognized product and interior designer Kelly Wearstler consistently amazes with her creations, and this entryway design is no exception. Artistic and creative, it simply captivates you.
