Recently, Kite Packaging celebrated the grand opening of their newly revamped Letchworth branch, marking a significant milestone in their South East operations. This ambitious project involved a complete overhaul of the acquired site, transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility capable of supporting their expanding business.

July 2016 - Acquisition of the Letchworth Site

After months of searching for a suitable property, Kite Packaging successfully purchased the 23,949 sq. ft. Letchworth site, along with an adjacent office block. Originally a manufacturing plant with office space, the site offered ample room for Kite to grow while accommodating their increasing operational demands.

August 2016 - Commencement of Renovations

To make the site operational, essential renovations were necessary. This project provided an excellent opportunity for Kite’s graduates to gain hands-on experience by managing various aspects of the project under the guidance of senior management. They collaborated closely with contractors to ensure the project stayed on schedule and within budget.

Warehouse Transformation

Maintaining high customer service standards was paramount during the renovation process. Designing an efficient warehouse layout was crucial since the previous Harlow branch had begun relying on third-party storage solutions, complicating inventory management. With the additional 6,000 sq. ft. of space at Letchworth, Kite was able to create a well-organized layout that streamlined stock picking and packing processes.

The new warehouse design allowed all stock to remain onsite, reducing dependency on external storage facilities. This setup ensured smoother operations and quicker order fulfillment.

Office Transformation

The office transformation encompassed more than just cosmetic updates; it included structural changes like relocating the entrance to separate it from the main office area. One standout feature was the addition of a mezzanine floor created by repurposing an old archive storage section. This modification added valuable square footage, enabling Kite to accommodate more staff members without constraints.

The upgraded office environment features modern furniture and glass meeting room doors that complement the open-plan design. A splash of color and personality was added through the use of Kite’s signature green accents, visible both in the feature walls and the reception area.

October 2016 - Stock Relocation from Harlow to Letchworth

One of the biggest challenges during the Letchworth project was moving the existing stock from the Harlow branch to the new location without disrupting customer service or order processing. Extensive planning went into ensuring every item had a designated spot in the new warehouse. A dedicated team of Kite employees worked tirelessly over a Bank Holiday weekend to complete the relocation.

On Tuesday, October 24th, 2016, the Letchworth branch began full operations.

November 2016 - Official Opening Ceremony

The official opening ceremony for the Letchworth branch was presided over by Kite Group Chairman Bruce McInnes and the Managing Partners. As Managing Partner Paul Mustard noted, this branch not only meets current operational needs but also paves the way for future growth. It represents Kite’s commitment to expanding its presence in the South East region and contributing to the overall growth of the company.
