The so-called ultraviolet light refers to "non-visible light" with a shorter wavelength than "visible light" (the wavelength of visible light is between 400 and 700 microns). According to the wavelength, ultraviolet rays are divided into UV-A, UV-B and UV-C. The shorter the wavelength, the higher the energy, and the longer the opposite wavelength, the better the penetration. Because the earth is protected by an odor layer, only about 5% of the ultraviolet rays in sunlight enter the atmosphere, 90% of which are UV-A and 10% are UV-B. Fortunately, most UV-C is absorbed by the ozone layer. UV-C (<280nm), due to high energy but low penetration, can cause burns of the cornea epidermis. The ultraviolet lamp in the ultraviolet aging test box is made of pure quartz glass tube made of natural crystal. The ultraviolet penetration rate of the pure quartz tube is higher than 80%. But the penetration ability of ultraviolet rays is not as high as expected, any paper, lead glass, plastic will greatly reduce the irradiation intensity. Therefore, dirt and oil stains on the quartz shell will directly affect its penetration ability. Therefore, before using the new lamp, wipe it with gauze with a concentration of 75% alcohol to remove oil stains, hand sweat and dust. The lamp tube and quartz shell in use should be wiped and cleaned regularly to avoid affecting the ultraviolet transmittance and irradiation intensity. The ultraviolet lamp also has a certain service life. Because the intensity of ultraviolet light cannot be judged with the naked eye, whether it still has sterilization ability is impossible to detect and master. The service life of the lamp is about 1500 hours, and continuous use can only maintain a period of six months to one year. Once the time limit is exceeded, ultraviolet light cannot penetrate the quartz shell and exert a disinfecting effect, and must be updated.

Ultraviolet sterilization is strong, but the penetrating power is extremely weak. A barrier between the lamp and the test object will cause the ultraviolet radiation to be blocked and the penetration will be reduced.
