Recently, the Peugeot Fractal concept car has captured public attention as a fully electric roadster. What makes it particularly intriguing is its innovative cockpit design based on the Peugeot i-Cockpit concept, which integrates numerous 3D-printed components. This showcases a glimpse into the future of automotive interiors, emphasizing both aesthetics and functionality. In collaboration with StelLab, Peugeot’s research division, and Focal, a French electroacoustic company, the Fractal features a high-end audio system with 13 speakers and an integrated "tactile bass system." These are embedded in the seatbacks, delivering a unique "spaced" and "dynamic" acoustic experience inside the vehicle. The development team refers to the Fractal as a "creative cradle," with 80% of the interior surface made from 3D-printed parts. The design also incorporates sound-absorbing materials created through generative design techniques. These materials help reduce noise levels and enhance the acoustic environment by reflecting sound waves between surfaces—something that would be nearly impossible with traditional manufacturing methods. The interior spans over 15 square meters, and advanced algorithms were used to optimize material placement for superior acoustics. 3D printing allowed the team to produce complex shapes and surfaces that would not be feasible otherwise. As a pure electric vehicle, the Fractal is powered by two 40 kWh lithium-ion batteries, each driving a motor at 168 bhp. The combined power output reaches 335 bhp, with a curb weight of just 1,000 kg and a range of approximately 280 miles (451 km). While its acceleration from 0 to 62 mph takes around 6.8 seconds, this performance is more than sufficient for a city-focused electric vehicle. Peugeot plans to unveil the Fractal at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, which opened in mid-September, offering a glimpse into the future of electric mobility and interior design.
