The development process of "Industry 4.0" in China's flexible packaging printing industry
In December 2008, Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang proposed at the national industrial and information technology conference to promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, emphasizing the integration of information technology with industrialization. In fact, as early as 2006, a leading flexible packaging company in China began experimenting with an early version of "Industry 4.0." The company pioneered the integration of "general productivity + informatization + standardization." According to insiders, this approach significantly enhanced the competitive edge of the composite membrane company. For instance, the inventory level of base paper dropped by 60%, and working capital was saved by over 20 million yuan. This marked China's first attempt at Industry 4.0.
Industry 4.0 typically involves three key stages. The first stage is the initial setup of information systems. At this stage, the compound packaging factory can track real-time finished product inventory when opening business orders and obtain raw material dynamics through the construction order interface. This improves departmental synergy and ensures complete data information. The second stage focuses on production management and standardized processes. Informatization is deeply embedded into grassroots operations, with frontline workers directly entering production task progress into the system. The system then automatically collects and dynamically feeds back the information to relevant managers, enabling timely adjustments if business orders or production projects change. Additionally, standardized processes help improve product quality. The third stage involves the "handshake" between equipment and software, where intelligent packaging and printing equipment are introduced. These machines operate based on instructions from the information system. The goal is to open up platforms to the outside world, as open platforms are more likely to gain public acceptance.
Industry 4.0 represents a significant upgrade for flexible packaging and printing enterprises. It integrates four key areas: management informatization, production automation, process standardization, and business networking. With the rapid development of mobile internet and IoT technologies, the pace of entering the "Industry 4.0" era is accelerating. For many flexible packaging companies, this is not just a trend but a crucial opportunity for transformation and growth. Embracing these changes can lead to greater efficiency, better decision-making, and a stronger market position in the evolving industrial landscape.
